Just as a counterpoint to Debs great pictures.
I was on a Quad tour today. The weather was partly snowy and just a little sunshine at about 30°F.

The pictures are great! Is that a road or a quad trail you guys are on? If it's a trail then you guys sure do a great job keeping them clear!

This is an official road.
OK it's not the main road but still you have quite a bit of traffic going trough there.
In the Appenzellerland they don't use salt, unless it's really urgent. They always leave the roads 'white'. That's much better for the enviroment and it's more fun with toys like quads

It sure is beautiful, a place I'd like to visit sometime. You are very lucky they control their use of salt. Our roads are also "white" as you say BUT white from too much salt

I fought with my town officials - last year they threw so much salt it killed about two feet of my grass along the road. It doesn't do any good, this year I think they are throwing even more salt!
