Tranmission oil level sight tube

Has anyone replaced their trans oil level sight tube and if so where did you buy it . Mine is getting very hard to read because it's getting yellowish . Would be nice to have a clear tube .

yes...I just went to an auto store and asked for clear tubing that was somewhat heat resistant.

Came home and threw it into some boiling water to make sure it never melted then installed. I know boiling is only 212F but I had a temp gauge on that bike for oil so I was not worried.

Thanks Barry , I thought maybe the tubing had to be petroleum resistant also .

I think the stuff they sell is gas resistant...I guess just ask at the counter.

Thanks Shane , I wonder if that company ZEUS that sells the THV tubing would sell a small amount to a individual ? Or may I should just go thru Mountain BH ?

Mountain rebuilds trannys....I would be super surprised if they did not have the tubing on the shelf.

Thanks Barry , I'll check it out for my next trans fluid change .
I just changed my fluid and because I can barley see the level in the tube I wound up over filling by about a half a quart and didn't discover it until I fired it up and could just make out the level .in the fucked up tube .Anyway I drained out the overage but was just a unnecessarily PIA .

It is a bit of a PITA to change the tube as the hose clamps can be a bitch to take off and put on. As I said I did it once...took a bit of patience.

Did you flush the system of just dump the tranny...? Just curious

I just dump and since day one it looks just as clean coming out as it did going in . I have never found any metal or dicolored or dirty fluid but if I ever do I will flush the whole system . 75,000 some odd miles and my trans works like new so I'm leary to do anything different . It's like when I go to the Doc for a physical he gives me a clean bill of health he always says " whatever your doing keep it up " and believe me other than trying to stay in shape I don't lead a lily white lifestyle .

When I'm checking the site tube, I hit it with some brakeclean first, then get a really bright flashlight or something and keep it shining on it as I'm filling it up. Seems to work ok for me that way.
