SO ... Umm How do I prove that i actually tapped the pan? Do videos have to be made? Will there be a conflict with Hollywood for production rights? Inquiring minds want to know!!!!

The fact that you admitted tapping your pan is proof enough for me!! because who would ever say that if they had not??

In the meantime the steel for the flange plates is ordered, I'll fabricate them next week, the Sawsall is charging, I have the new oil pan gasket (fancy piece of kit in neoprene with gasket alignment pins that you can hold the gasket exactly in place and slide the pan over them) and my trusty car mechanic will come to my garage to weld her back up.

Just waiting for the borescope...

Borescope a fail, couldn't make out shapes, cheap kit not made in the USofA.

Anyway used the old trick of a probe wire. I've videod it and it's at http://youtu.be/j2ELo_Q062U

I'll try to add the link directly, but it didn't appear in the preview before, mmmm?

Still, I think it's definitely the oil pick up tube, the #1 Corvette man in the UK advised me that BBs and cammed SBs throw them, and he tacks them in as a matter of course.

So it's crossmember cuttin' time.

Remember, it's always worth a pat before the pick-up drops off.

Gordon, My ffriend made a removable crossmember on my BH trike. He used small exhaust pipe flanges that were for an air cooled VW on the removable tube where it connects to the flange on the non removable frame sections. It came out great, was easy, the factory should have done it.

Great video Gordon!! Now keep the pics coming- I am curious how you are going to customize the cross member.

I'll use 8 of 8mm x 25mm bolts with nylocks.

Waterpump off, (flushing and refreshing the coolant anyway) and cut & redesign a removable pump plate. And alternator off to allow for welding room.

Looks great Gordon but how will you be lifting the bike and how high will the bike be off the ground? I am assuming you will need a lot of clearance to cut and weld.

Gordon...that is pretty much what I have seen with other crossmembers being reoved and made to be removeable.

Want an aluminum oil pan?? new?? FREE?? Only shipping?

I inherited it from the BC dealer I bought out..research to see if it fits if you are interested.

I'll use chocked rear wheeel and 2 swing arm axle stands to hold it upright and 2 jacks at a time to raise it equally then secure with 2 further axle stands under the foot rest area, leaving the crossmember accessible.

I'll get the nose as high as poss, I can then either get my sawsall in (1st choice) or angle grinder. My welder has portable kit and believes he can get in there enough to weld it up. I'll take photos as I go along.

Canny Canucks...I told you so... but accept it's hard to imagine and the first video didn't provide surround sound!

Thanks to the generous offer, my research says the S8444 fits passenger side dipstick (it's on the right as I sit on it) SBC 86-up V8 283, 305, 327, 350, 400 so should be a goer. I also held my new oil gasket to the screen and it looks like a good fit.

I still like the sleeving of the cross member like I mentioned at the beginning of this topic . Much simpler and no welding involved just drilling thru the sleeve and frame and a couple of bolts each side of the cross member saw cut . If I ever have to remove my pan this what I'm going to do . If precision made and fit properly I think it would work just as well as welding flanges . Some people have even said that this frame cross member may not even be necessary ??

it is about $181 for 5 days and $100 for surface but I can't find how long Surface actually takes...

I have been researching oil pump pickups and Melling Oil Pump advice is to remove the oil pump and use a melling pick up tube installation tool, (they would wouldn't they).

On another video a pair of wrenches pound a wrench over the tube with the oil pump on the engine (that looked a tough job as it's a 6thou interference fit and the pump's cast).

As I'll remove the pump I will have to prime the pump with oil but also I've drained my oil and removed the filter and will not refill with oil for a couple of weeks, will I have to oil re-prime the whole engine as with a new build?
I hope not as that means removing the distributor, getting an oil prime tool, priming then re-timing the damn thing all over - not a job I want to tackle.

The next time I get over to the States we'll hook up, have an AGM and a few US beers, I believe FLA has lovely weather (outside the hurricane season).

Home (wife's kitchen - alright OUR kitchen) and my Father-in-Law breaking his hip etc has meant I haven't been able to tear into the frame and therefore pan.

But I'm hoping next week if these damn clients don't keep asking for my help in sorting out their businesses!!!

At least it's raining and cold here and the Hoss don't like wet roads!!! Always see the silver lining!
