Mini Alternator

Post by hogv8 »

I've been thinking of installing one of the Mini alternators on my Boss SB . I know that Sabertooth runs them and apparently they do the job . Any opinions ?

Jack,
just curious, why are you considering a mini?

Bill , mainly for looks . Being a mini it doesn't hang down as low and stand out like sore thumb . I looked into it and the mini is expensive to begin with and the brackets would have be changed to allow mounting and adjustment . Just not worth it I Guess .

I never understood the, supposed, need for these big ass 100+ amp alternators. Bigger is often just bigger. Cars, back in the 50s and 60s got by, just fine, with 35 amp generators. They all had twice as many headlights, taillights, a radio, heater blowers, interior lighting and sometimes even A/C. Our bikes are two wheeled T Buckets with one headlight and one taillight. I am certain that a 35-40 amp unit will work perfectly. V8 Chopper runs a mini, I think. So did King V, Sabertooth may have used them on all 5 of their bikes, I also believe Vanquish uses one. I know that the next time mine conks out, I'm putting a mini on it

Buck mentioned having to change brackets and belt to accommodate mini-has anyone done this and if not I am curious how difficult and expensive it would be- any thoughts?

Haved not done it yet, but it makes sense that the smaller the target the better.

Brackets will be about $110 IF these are the correct ones they are not chrome ... http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ctr-7 ... /chevrolet

The Mini Alternator will run you about $250 from Summit and it isn't chrome but it is a 120 amp 1 wire unit.
Who says building a border wall won't work?!? The Chinese built one over 2000 years ago and they STILL don't have any Mexicans ...
