2007 trike low speed wobble

Post by CanuckHoss »

Have a customer who bought a used 2007 trike from me September and says he has a wobble...side to side...in the bars at 5 to 10 mph on level surfaces...can't hold the bars with one hand.

I have never had this with the 2007 and up trikes.

Steering head bearings?? Wheel bearings I thought more likely..anything else??

He said it has done it since he bought it and that is 10,000 miles ago...I never drove the trike as it was a customer delivered for sale and taken home only hours later the same day by new owner and I never drove it.

This is weird.

I would think if the wheel bearings are that bad, you will see some temperature rise (just a touch test) at the axle after riding it a mile or two.

yes..and to go apparently 10,000 miles like that almost all but eliminates wheel bearings...they should have blown up... He is not near me so a friend is going to jack up the trike and have a feel at things.

I've noticed on the wife SB trike, it the front tire pressure is lower than like 45 it seems to want to wobble more.

Apparently it is ok after 10 mph so I doubt wheel balance...you never know though as shit happens

Front tire wear??? Might tell you something.
Does it have a steering damper on it???
I'm going with neck bearing worn or lose.

Front tire was alright when I sold it...

No need for steering dampners on the '07 and up

He told his friend it was that way when he first got it and just never said anything until 8 months and 10,000 miles later

1] I can't see on mine how the front wheel might be fitted the wrong way round although the tyre might be?

2] Maybe one of the front caliper pistons sticking?

3] Sticky caliper(s) and unable to float properly?

4] The discs should also be floating so I'd be tempted to remove the 10 Bobbins on each disc and clean out all mating surfaces..
