My Lucky Day

Post by mmaupin »

My bike is a 03 SB with about 30K miles.

Today my half warn out starter, corroded terminals and anything else that added to the system resistance was my saving grace.

Had been doing some traveling and carrying the bike on the back of my truck via an AmeriDeck system. On my return trip, I drove through some heavy rain. When I got home, I rolled the bike off into the shop where I left it to dry out for a few days.

This evening, decided to go for a ride. Hit the starter.... it made about 1/2 of a revolution and stopped dead. I knew it was hydra-lock. My fuel tank valve was closed. Pulled all of the plugs and the No. 1 cylinder was full of water. My air cleaner has a chrome top. There is an indention ~2-1/2" in diameter around the wingnut where water could pool. The water most likely seeped in around the wingnut.

Dried it out, put the plugs in and went for a ride.

Luckily, nothing broke.

All is good.

Regards,

Mark

Lucky day is right! that little bit of frustration coupled with logical thinking and experienced saved you thousands of $$$$
Who says building a border wall won't work?!? The Chinese built one over 2000 years ago and they STILL don't have any Mexicans ...

Just my 2 cents worth...

I'd change the oil and filter - cheap insurance.

You may not have generated enough heat and pressure on your ride to emulsify any water/oil mix sufficiently to show yet.
