Its been six months and two days since I got hit by an RV trailer while pulling away from a stoplight in Montana. My hand is completely healed and we got the bike back today. The bike suffered no major damage as it basically just was pushed over on it side as the RV just hit me as it passed me at about ten mile per hour. I jumped off and landed on my feet and never even fell down but something on the trailer mangled my hand. The bike needed a new front fender, radiator, radiator shroud, pegs, crash bars, gas tank was dented, handlebars, windshield, risers, mirrors, most of that was actually torn off the bike as the trailer scraped a long its side. Frame, forks, wheels, motor, were all just fine but the stuff that bolts to it were toast. The rear fender and the side panels were'nt touched so they didn't get repainted. The painter repaired and repainted the tank, the new front fender and radiator shroud were also painted. I rode it today with my girlfriend and it seems as good as new. During the wait for the bike to get done I bought a new Triumph Rocket 3. My hand was pretty raw when I got that bike and it has a clutch. My hand pulled in the clutch lever but with pain. As I look back it was probably good exercise for the hand, it seems fine now.

Sorry I could not get to Vegas for AC/DC and have a visit....went to Seattle / Tacoma on Tuesday and saw them...ROCK AND ROLL!!!!!

Not a pretty site looking at the hand pic..But hopefully you and the bike are better than before. Hope you didn't get hosed in the ordeal...everything looks good! good luck..

Great to hear from you and that you are mending well. And hand injuries are a bitch, (I know) but once you can get riding again, things improve. Even if more slowly than we would like. But then, we are no longer young

Randy, I did get fucked by the guys insurance company. Its a long story but they didn't believe my witness on the other bike because they say he was my friend. DUH, I don't think any of us would ride to Sturgis with our enemy. In any case I'm alright and its just money.

She is finally here to stay. We're getting married on the 18th, a couple of more weeks. We're getting married in a drive thru wedding here in Vegas. We're gonna do it on our v8 Chopper. There might be a twenty year old somewhere in the United States that is getting married on a Chopper but I know there aint a 73 year old one getting married on one with a V8 in it. Her parents tried to talk some sense into us, they wanted us to do it in the car. I told them "we already have".

My wife Cheryl and I rode my Harley to the local town hall and got married by the Justice 25 years ago . The town clerk was our witness . However we lived together 13 years before we got married . Had to make sure we were compatable first ya know . Haha

We were out riding on the BH today again cause its great weather here in Vegas right now. the bike had a few bugs in it that I had to fix, better the bike than the wife. Today we got a buffet at one of the casinos reserved for guests on our wedding day and two days later we got a restaurant reserved for our friends in Los Angeles. Its a lot easier to just "GO STEADY" instead of the marriage ritual. As you can see in the picture I'm already getting fat from the home cooking. There's kids in my neighborhood who don't even like me but they stand next to me just to be in the shade.

Dave , not to change the subject but I notice a couple of things on your bike , what are the gator looking things on your fork tubes and what is the rectangular block under your swingarm/rear axle ?

JACK YOU HAVE A GOOD EYE, The gator looking things are fork leg protectors. On two occasions while riding through many states I just happened to come up on newly oiled road construction. In both cases the road had been freshly paved with new asphalt within the last hour, in fact I was stopped by a flagman and had to wait for the traffic coming from the opposite direction to pass before I could go on the freshly paved surface. Oil and a asphalt came off my wheel and got on one of my front fork legs. I didn't know it until we stopped for gas. The stuff can be removed with diesel fuel if caught before it dries but after it dries its hard to remove. In any case both times the little bit that got on the fork leg wrecked the fork seal as the forks did their job which caused a minor leak. When I got back to Vegas a couple of weeks later I had to remove the forks and bring them to So Cal and have American Suspension replace them. The first time it happened I thought it was just one in a million but then two years later on a trip to Canada it happened again. I had someone make the gators and they are loose on the forks so the weight of them lets them just rest on the lower triple tree. They have been on for a few years and they do the job. The square things under my chrome swing arm were welded on by the factory in 2003 as the original customer who ordered the bike thought he was going to pull a trailer. Luckily for my Nesco that never happened. The original customers family was intimidated by the bike and were positive that he would die on it so he sold it to me with 523 miles on it. I made a tool that fits into the rectangles and enables me to jack the bike up and then remove the jack and the bike sits with its rear wheel off the ground and will not tip over even in an earthquake. It works great for servicing the trans when I change the oil. Now I have a later front fender on the bike then the early ones and it covers the front wheel better so maybe my gators are no longer needed but I am not taking chances anymore. They just have a piece of velcro that lets them become a cylinder so they can be taken off and on easily.

I have an overflow tank on my BH that I got from Marv. When I got in the accident the radiator was damaged bad enough to need replacement. The newer radiator looks like the overflow tank is built onto it already, is that true? I removed the extra overflow tank today.

Thanks Sonny, thats what it looked like to me. Now my bike which is already 13 years old has a late model radiator and late model front fender, plus new paint on the tank, front fender, and fan shroud. The front half of the bike is 2016!
